If you have areas with stubborn fat, you will know that no diet selectively targets those bits you want to lose. Liposuction does and may be a solution. Liposuction or liposculpture (they are the same thing) is a surgical procedure that removes fat cells. Because as adults we cannot make new fat cells, this has the effect of permanently reshaping body contours. Liposuction is not a treatment for weight loss or cellulite and it will not stop you putting on (or losing) weight in your new shape in the future. It is however, an effective reshaping procedure for single or multiple areas in the right patient.

Surgery Day
Your procedure will be performed as day surgery under general anesthetic in an accredited, licensed hospital. The length of the surgery depends on how many areas are being treated but is typically 1 -3 hours. Your surgeon will put a compression garment on you at the end of the procedure and you will need to keep this on until advised. You will spend typically a couple of hours under close supervision in the recovery area before being discharged. You will need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first night.
Post Surgery
You will have your surgeon’s mobile phone number in case you need them and the MINKST team will regularly be in touch to ensure everything is running smoothly. We will have arranged your first post operative check up with your surgeon before you leave the hospital. Then you would be discharged from hospital after a few hours in recovery and under close medical observation.
Generally, the pain is mild to moderate and medication will be prescribed to assist. Approximately a week after surgery most patients can return to work.
It is normal for a small amount of fluid to leak from the incision sites for the first 12 hours after liposuction. The MINKST team will explain about how to manage this.
During the first few weeks swelling and bruising will be present whilst the tissue is healing. This can sometimes feel quite firm, however, will gradually settle within a couple of months after the operation. It is very important to wear the post-surgical garment as advised.
MINKST offers liposuction surgery in various locations throughout Australia, including major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and more.
We also offer our services in regional areas across the country.
Liposuction, like any surgical procedure, carries certain risks that individuals should be aware of before making a decision.
The main risks associated with liposuction include infection, bleeding, scarring, contour irregularities, asymmetry, changes in skin sensation, fluid accumulation, fat embolism (rare), anaesthesia complications, and the need for revision surgeries. Skin irregularities, such as dimpling or waviness, may occur, and there is a possibility of excessive fluid loss during the procedure.
It is important to consult with an appropriately qualified surgeon, thoroughly discuss all the potential risks, and carefully weigh the benefits against the risks to make an informed decision.
