At this consultation your surgeon will listen to what you want to achieve and develop with you a personalised operation plan including:

• The reasons you want to have this surgery and outcome you would like to achieve
• Incision planning
• Scar minimisation
• Your surgeon will also ensure you have a clear understanding of the risk of your breast and tummy surgeries.

Surgery Day

Your procedures will be performed under general anaesthetic in an accredited, licensed hospital. The surgery itself takes between 2 – 6 hours depending on the type of procedures you require. You will spend typically a couple of hours under close supervision in the recovery area before being discharged. In some cases you may require an overnight stay at the hospital. You will need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first night.

Like any surgical procedure, breast & abdominoplasty surgery carries certain risks that individuals should be aware of before making a decision.

Risks associated with both surgeries include infection, bleeding, adverse reaction to anaesthesia, scarring, wound healing complications, changes in skin sensation, fluid accumulation, seroma formation, asymmetry, contour irregularities, blood clots, anaesthesia-related complications, and the need for revision surgeries.

Specific to Breast surgeries: Changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome, and the need for future revision surgeries. Breastfeeding is usually possible after a breast lift, but some individuals might experience difficulties in producing sufficient milk. If you are having a lift with implants – complications specific to breast implants such as rupture, rippling, or capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant) are also possible. Recent news has highlighted a potential association between textured breast implants and Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (ALCL).

It is important to consult with an appropriately qualified surgeon, thoroughly discuss all the potential risks, and carefully weigh the benefits against the risks to make an informed decision.

When can I exercise again after breast & abdominoplasty surgery?

You can typically start exercising again after about 4 weeks, focusing on light cardio and gentle movements initially. Over time, you can gradually increase intensity, and by around the 3 month mark, you should be able to resume most pre-surgery activities. Working with a personal trainer or physiotherapist can be beneficial in guiding your recovery and ensuring proper support for your body. 

It is important to wear the necessary support garments during this period.

Can I have both procedures in the one surgery?

It’s possible to undergo a combination of procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift, or a combination of both with a tummy tuck in a single surgical session. This comprehensive procedure is commonly known as a “mummy makeover” and is sought after by women looking to address post-pregnancy or weight related body changes.

However, combining these surgeries is a major undertaking, and the feasibility depends on factors such as the extent of lifting, skin removal, and the duration of the operation.
