Breast Fat Transfer Augmentation – Autologous Fat Grafting

Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast

What is breast fat transfer augmentation surgery?

Breast fat transfers are a way to subtly and naturally increase the size of your breasts and is suitable for those wanting a small increase of 1-2 cup sizes. This procedure is also used in combination with breast implants and is known as breast fat transfer augmentation or hybrid breast augmentation. A bigger cup size is able to be achieved with this combination and the fat transfer fills in areas where natural breast tissue is lacking – to create a more natural result. During the procedure, fat is taken from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or back through liposuction and then injected into the breasts.

BREAST FAT TRANSFER RISKS

Breast fat transfer, like any surgical procedure, carries risks that individuals should be aware of.

These include infection, bleeding, scarring, asymmetry, changes in breast sensation, fat necrosis, calcification, cyst formation, oil cysts, and the potential need for additional revision surgeries. Incomplete fat graft survival and volume retention over time are possible. Rare complications like pulmonary embolism or fat embolism syndrome can occur.

If combined with breast implants, risks like rupture, rippling, or capsular contracture may also arise. Textured breast implants have been associated with Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (ALCL).

Consulting with a qualified surgeon, discussing all risks thoroughly, and carefully considering the benefits versus risks are vital for making an informed decision.

FAQS

How long does fat transfer breast augmentation last?

Fat transfer breast augmentation typically provides long-lasting results. Initially, there may be a slight reduction in breast size as some of the transferred fat is metabolised or reabsorbed by the body. However, after approximately six months, the remaining fat cells should be permanent and provide lasting results.

Does fat transfer help sagging breasts?

Fat transfer can improve the appearance of mildly sagging breasts by adding volume to specific areas like the upper and outer regions, enhancing cleavage and creating a perkier look. It can also address minor differences in breast size. However, for significant sagging, other solutions may be more effective.

Can fat transfer cause lumps in my breasts?

While fat transfer can be a beneficial procedure for breast enhancement, there are potential risks involved, including the formation of lumps.  By choosing a qualified MINKST doctor / surgeon, following post-operative care instructions, and being aware of potential symptoms, you can help minimise these risks. It’s always best to discuss your concerns with your doctor to determine if fat transfer is the right choice for you.
