Breast Implant Removal (Explant)

Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney

Although breast implants remain popular, some women decide for various reasons to undergo breast implant removal surgery – also known as breast explant. This is the removal of their breast implants, returning you back to your natural shape.
The procedure involves careful removal of the implant.
After the implant removal, you can consider breast revision surgery techniques, for example, a breast lift or fat transfer.

Surgery Day

Your procedure will be performed as day surgery under general anaesthetic in an accredited, licensed hospital. The surgery itself takes around an hour. You will spend typically a couple of hours under close supervision in the recovery area before being discharged. You will need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first night.

Post Surgery

You will have your surgeon’s mobile phone number in case you need them and the MINKST team will regularly be in touch to ensure everything is running smoothly. We will have arranged your first post operative check up with your surgeon before you leave the hospital.

RECOVERY

Breast explant surgery is a day procedure with no need for an overnight stay. If you are not a local and cannot travel home, we have options for you.

Every patient is different but generally breast explant patients experience mild to moderate pain during their recovery. Medication will be prescribed in case you need it. Approximately a week after surgery most patients can return to work. If you have a physical job you may need longer.

During the first few weeks some swelling and bruising will be present whilst the tissue is healing. This initially feels quite firm but gradually softens. After approximately 3 months your tissue will be settled and you will see the final results.

LOCATIONS

MINKST offers breast implant and breast augmentation surgery in various locations throughout Australia, including major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, and more.

We also offer our services in regional areas across the country.

Breast Implant Removal (Explant) Risks

Breast explant (breast implant removal), like any surgical procedure, carries certain risks that individuals should be aware of before making a decision.

Common risks associated with breast explant include infection, bleeding, adverse reaction to anaesthesia, scarring, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry. Additionally, breast tissue may be stretched or thinned after implant removal, impacting the natural appearance of the breasts which may result in the want for future revision surgeries.

It is important to consult with an appropriately qualified surgeon, thoroughly discuss all the potential risks, and carefully weigh the benefits against the risks to make an informed decision.
