Pre Surgery Consultation with your MINKST surgeon

At this consultation your MINKST surgeon will listen to what you want to achieve and develop with you a personalised operation plan including:

  • Type of breast lift
  • Implants or no implants
  • Incision planning
  • Scar minimisation

Your surgeon will also ensure you have a clear understanding of the risk of breast lift surgery. If you are considering breast augmentation as well as a breast lift your surgeon will explain the risks and benefits of staging the procedures or doing both at the same time.

Surgery Day

Your procedure will be performed as day surgery under general anesthetic in an accredited, licensed hospital. The breast lift surgery itself takes about two hours. You will spend typically a couple of hours under close supervision in the recovery area before being discharged. You will need a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first night.

Post Surgery

You will have your surgeon’s mobile phone number in case you need them and the MINKST team will regularly be in touch to ensure everything is running smoothly. We will have arranged your first post operative check up with your surgeon before you leave the hospital.

Breast lifting, with or without breast implants, is a day procedure with no need for an overnight stay. If you are not a local and cannot go home we have options for you.

Every patient is different but generally breast lift patients do not experience much pain during their recovery. Medication will be prescribed in case you need it. Approximately a week after surgery most patients can return to work. If you have a physical job you may need longer.

During the first few weeks some swelling and bruising will be present whilst the tissue is healing. This initially feels quite firm but gradually softens. Another consequence of the swelling is that it artificially lifts the breasts more than the planned amount so you should expect some settling to a more natural result over the first few months.

Breast lift, like any surgical procedure, carries certain risks that individuals should be aware of before making a decision.

Common risks associated with breast lift surgery include infection, bleeding, adverse reaction to anaesthesia, scarring, changes in nipple or breast sensation, asymmetry, dissatisfaction with the aesthetic outcome, and the need for future revision surgeries. Breastfeeding is usually possible after a breast lift, but some individuals might experience difficulties in producing sufficient milk.

If you are having a breast lift with implants – complications specific to breast implants such as rupture, rippling, or capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant) are also possible. Recent news has highlighted a potential association between textured breast implants and Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (ALCL).

It is crucial to consult with an appropriately qualified surgeon, thoroughly discuss all the potential risks, and carefully weigh the benefits against the risks to make an informed decision.

What’s the difference between breast augmentation and breast lift?
Breast augmentation and breast lift are two separate cosmetic procedures that target different concerns related to the breasts but can also be combined if necessary. Breast augmentation aims to enhance breast size and shape with the use of implants, while a breast lift aims to raise the breast position by removing excess skin and reshaping the breast tissue. The choice between these procedures depends on your anatomy and individual goals. Read here to help determine if you need a breast lift and talk to MINKST to help you decide which option, including a combination of both is most suitable for your specific needs.

How is a breast lift done?
A breast lift procedure involves removing excess skin, tightening surrounding tissue, and repositioning the nipple to a higher position on the breast. The surgeon will make incisions around the areola, sometimes extending vertically down the breast crease or horizontally along the crease, depending on the degree of lift needed. Through these incisions, they reshape the breast tissue and remove excess skin before closing the incisions. The result is lifted, perkier breasts with improved contour and symmetry.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast lift?
Whether you can breastfeed after a breast lift depends on several factors, including the type of breast lift performed and how much tissue was manipulated during surgery.

In most cases, women who have had a breast lift are still able to breastfeed. However, there is always a chance that milk production or milk flow could be affected.
